ORDER ASCERTAINING AND DETERMINING
THE PREVAILING RATE OF WAGES TO BE
PAID IN THE MATTER OF "PUBLIC
IMPROVEMT DISTRICT NO. 631," IN
THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Bakersfield,
California, did, on the 21st day of October, 1940, adopt Resolu-
tion of Intention No. 631, for the construction of certain
improvements in "Public Improvement District No. 631 "; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of the Labor Code
of the State of California, it is necessary that the Council of
the City of Bakersfield, California, ascertain and determine
the general prevailing rate of wages on public works, and by
the provisions of said Code make it mandatory upon the awarding
body of any public contract where the said body subsequently
calls for bids for any public improvement, to ascertain and
determine the prevailing rate of per diem wages in the locality
in which the work is to be performed, for each craft or type
of workman or mechanic needed to execute the contract, and
also the general prevailing rate for legal holiday and overtime
work for each craft or type of workman.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Bakersfield,
California, has ascertained and does hereby determine that the
general prevailing rate of per diem wages in the locality in
which the said work described to be performed in the said
resolution, for each craft or type of workman or mechanic needed

to execute the contract, and also the general prevailing rate
for legal holiday and overtime work for each craft and type of
workman or mechanic, to be as follows:

The per diem wages for a fractional part of a day shall
be applicable rates multiplied by the number of hours worried.
Positions not listed above will be allocated in accord-
ance with the definitions which appear herein, as interpreted
in the light of this classification.
The minimum wage paid to all skilled labor, for which
rates are not shown above, shall be not less than $1.00 per hour.
The minimum wage paid to all intermediate labor, for
which rates are not shown above, shall be not less than 75 cents
per hour.
The minimum wage paid to all unskilled labor, for which
rates are not shown above, shall be not less than 71.5 cents per
hour.
Overtime - double the above rates.
Sundays and holidays (except watchmen, guards and
flagmen) - double the above rates.
In accordance with the provisions of Sec. 1777.5 of
the Laud^ Code, as amended by Chapter 971, Statutes of 1939,
and in accordance with the regulations of the California Appren-
ticeship Council, properly indentuied apprentices may be employed
in the prosecution of the work.

I HEREBY CFRTIFY that the foregoing Resolution and
Order was passed and adopted by the Council of the City of
Bakersfield at a regular meeting thereof held on the X144 day
of , 1940, by the following vote:
