Under the SCP, active gang members are invited to participate in “call-ins” where they hear the community’s demand to stop the violence as well as a message of concern for the gang members and a willingness to help them through social services. BSSP began holding Call-In sessions in October of 2010. Five “call-ins” have been held in 2012 (April, May, June, September, November). We are still seeing between 60%-75% attendance by the gang members. Peace Walks Community Peace Walks have been held in September, October, and November. The Peace Walks are held in neighborhoods affected by gang violence. Their purpose is to educate and encourage those who are willing to take a stand against gang violence and to connect residents and families to community resources available as alternatives to gang activity. The peace walks are being led by community organizations and supported by all members of the Bakersfield Safe Streets Partnership. 11/13/2012 1 Kern County Sheriff’s Office Gang Suppression Section 2012 Statistics by Deputy Richard Hudson Kern County Sheriff’s Office Gang Suppression Section •Homicide numbers (gang related) •2011 2010 2009 2008 2007 • 5 10 17 2 14 •2012 Homicide Stats •First Quarter (as of May) •Gang related 0 Non Gang Related 10 Total 10 •Year to Date •Gang Related 1 Non Gang Related 17 Total 18 •2012 Aggravated Assault •First Quarter (as of May) •Gang Related 30 Non Gang Related 391 Total 421 •Year to Date •Gang Related 56 Non Gang Related 924 Total 980 •Robberies Year to date •Gang Related 21 Non Gang Related 257 Total 278 •Gang Suppression Section Stats • 2011 Year to date (Nov 2012) •Arrests 198 241 •Court Hrs 2400 2850 •Search Warrants 25 10
