HomeMy WebLinkAbout01/04/2013 OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER January 4, 2013 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Alan Tandy, City Manager AT SUBJECT: General Information Miscellaneous News • The installation ceremony for Mayor Harvey L. Hall will take place Monday, January 7th at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers – 1501 Truxtun Avenue. Mayor Hall will be sworn in to begin his fourth term as Mayor. A reception will immediately follow in the foyer. The ceremony is open to the public and a news release with more information is enclosed. • A well-deserved congratulation goes out to the Bakersfield Southwest Baseball group. Within the past month they have installed nine scoreboards at the fields at Aera Park. The improvements were completed entirely through private donations and fundraising. Pictures of the installation can be found on the group’s website: http://www.bswb.org/object.aspx?id=538&o=221. Additionally, an anonymous donor has provided funding to light the largest field within the complex. The lighting project is moving forward and completion is scheduled for February. The collaboration between the City and BSWB is one of the best examples we have of a very successful public-private partnership! • Some relatively good news to start the year – the State Department of Finance reconsidered its position on the Arena bond debt. In short, the DOF amended its position and has approved payment of $12 million of the $17 million in outstanding debt. The City will have to absorb $500,000 per year into the general fund over a 10 year period, but it is much less than the $1.7 per year we previously told you about! • As another reminder, the City Council meeting on January 9th will be the first meeting utilizing the new time format. Closed session will begin at 3:30 p.m. and public session will begin at 5:15 p.m. TRIP News  Beginning the week of January 14th, consultants working on the Centennial Corridor project will be performing geotechnical work along State Routes 99 and 58, and along Mohawk Street and the Westside Parkway.
