On Thursday, January 10, 2013, a fist fight occurred during school hours at Bakersfield
High School. Later that night, the Bakersfield Police Department received information
related to the fight regarding the possibility of a shooting to occur on Friday, January 11,
2013 at Bakersfield High School, located at 1241 G Street.
Threats of a shooting spread among students via the social networking site, Facebook,
and through text messages.
Bakersfield Police Officers assisted the Kern High School District Police by providing an
additional uniformed presence at Bakersfield High School during the morning hours,
lunchtime, as well as after school.
The Bakersfield Police Department is thoroughly investigating the incident and possible
leads. The threats have not been found to be credible at this point in the investigation.
The investigation is ongoing.
The Bakersfield Police Department proactively and aggressively pursues any leads
regarding incidents related to potential violence at schools in the city of Bakersfield.
