For Immediate Release March 29, 2013
Litter in our community is an ongoing problem that reduces property values, affects local
businesses, and impacts community pride.
In an ongoing effort to help keep our community clean, the Bakersfield Police
Department will be conducting enhanced enforcement of litter and illegal trash
transportation laws in the coming weeks. Officers will be providing extra attention to
areas with known litter and dumping problems and issuing citations for Municipal and
Vehicle Code violations.
These violations can be punishable by fines as high as $1,000 and being sentenced to
pick up litter. We would like to encourage everyone to avoid a citation by:
Covering all loads when taking trash to the dump
Disposing of trash properly at home, in your car, and in public
Teaching your children not to litter
Individuals with information about areas where there is a known problem with littering or
illegal dumping should contact the Bakersfield Police Department by emailing
bpdtrf@bakersfieldpd.us or send an anonymous text message by simply entering
274637 into your phone and text BPDCRIMES along with your message.
Those who would like to help clean up Bakersfield can start by joining the Great
American Cleanup on April 6th. More information can be found at
