On April 11, 2013, at approximately 1:49 p.m., Bakersfield Police Officers
assisted employees of Child Protective Services with an investigation in the
400 block of White Lane. Upon arrival, officers located a five year old
female who was unattended in the residence. The female juvenile had
burn injuries on her body, consistent with being placed in scalding water.
The victim was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
During the course of the investigation, a search of the residence was
conducted. Ecstasy and Marijuana, as well as a stolen firearm were
located inside the residence.
The investigation led to the arrest of James Alfred, 23, of Bakersfield and
Shyla Alfred, 23, of Bakersfield. Both were arrested for felony child abuse,
as well as multiple narcotics and weapons charges.
