HomeMy WebLinkAbout13_04_09 SECRET WITNESS UPDATE 8000 blk Quest St Shooting BAKERSFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE Greg Williamson, Chief of Police Contact: Michaela Beard Public Information Office 661-326-3803 mbeard@bakersfieldpd.us For Immediate Release April 9, 2013 The Secret Witness Program is offering a reward of up to $5,000.00 for information leading to the arrest and filing of a complaint against the persons responsible for the homicide of Luis Garcia, 14, which occurred on March, 25, 2013, in the 8000 block of Quest Street. Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Bakersfield Police Department at (661) 327-7111 or Detective D. Cox at (661) 326-3514. The Secret Witness phone line operates 24 hours a day. Secrecy is guaranteed to those who call. Callers will be asked to select a code name and code number when they provide information to Secret Witness. Should additional contact with the caller be necessary, the code name will be published along with a request for the original caller to establish contact. Once contact is made, the caller will be asked to provide their original code number for verification purposes. The same steps will be taken to pay a reward to the caller. Secret Witness is operated under the direction of an independent, voluntary board of directors representing civic organizations, law enforcement agencies, media outlets, and corporate sponsors. Previous Release March 25, 2013 On Monday, March 25, 2013, the victim of the gunshot wound succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The identification of the victim will be released by the Kern County Coroner’s Office. The investigation is ongoing. Previous Release March 25, 2013 On Monday, March 25, 2013, at approximately 12:03 a.m., Bakersfield Police Officers responded to the 8000 block of Quest Street for a report of shots heard in the area. Officers arrived and located a male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim sustained major injuries. Detectives are continuing to follow up on leads as to the identification of suspects or a motive behind the shooting.
