April is a month in which law enforcement partners with the community to acknowledge those who answer the call to help others through taking 9-1-1 calls and to also recognize and educate others about the proper use of 9-1-1. The Bakersfield Police Department wants to remind the community of important information related to calling 9-1-1: • Always know where you are. Location is key to send responding officers arriving as quickly as possible to assist. • Stay calm and remember we are here to help. Be prepared to listen and respond to directions. • Seconds matter in an emergency, so being prepared can make all the difference! • Follow all instructions the dispatcher gives you and don’t hang up until the 9-1-1 call taker does. You can save a life! The Bakersfield Police Department Crime Prevention Unit offers a free educational program for pre-kindergarten and elementary school age students, regarding 9-1-1, which is interactive and informative. For more information on this presentation or to schedule a program please contact Alejandra Guitron at (661) 326-3388. You can now send an anonymous text message to the Bakersfield Police Department.
