On Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at approximately 12:53 a.m., Bakersfield Police Officers
conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 700 block of K Street.
During the traffic stop, the passenger in the vehicle fled.
The investigation led officers to a residence in the area and numerous surrender call
outs were made by officers.
A perimeter was established and the Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) Team
responded to the location.
The SWAT Team also issued numerous call outs to those inside the residence where
the investigation had led officers. Officers were able to establish communication with
one of the occupants and confirmed the suspect who fled during the vehicle stop, was
inside the residence.
The suspect, identified as, James Lamar Thomas, 26, voluntarily exited the residence
and was taken into custody.
Thomas was arrested for attempted murder, participation in a criminal street gang,
evading an officer and a weapons violation.
Thomas was wanted in connection with the shooting that occurred in the 1900 block of
Eye Street on April 20, 2013.
The investigation is ongoing.
