On May 20, 2013, at 11:09 a.m., the Bakersfield Police Department received a call of a
possible detonated device outside the science building at Bakersfield High School,
located at 1241 G Street.
When Bakersfield Police Officers were on their way to Bakersfield High School, they
received reports of two other detonations: one occurred inside Warren Hall inside the
boy’s restroom and another in an open area outside the industrial building.
There were a total of three detonated devices, which appeared to be related.
The device was described as a chemical reaction device.
No one was injured during the detonations.
The Bakersfield High School Administration placed the school on lockdown. Students
were later released around 1:45 p.m.
The Bakersfield Police Department, Bakersfield Fire Department and Kern High School
District Police worked in conjunction with one another to see if there are any other
devices.
One student was detained for possibly being involved. No arrests have been made.
The investigation is ongoing.
