HomeMy WebLinkAbout13_05_31 Sexual Assault Arrest Dennis 108872 13-108872 BAKERSFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE Greg Williamson, Chief of Police Contact: Michaela Beard Public Information Office 661-326-3803 mbeard@bakersfieldpd.us For Immediate Release May 31, 2013 On May 30, 2013, at approximately 6:15 p.m., Bakersfield Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Baker Street and Lincoln Street regarding a sexual assault. The investigation revealed the victim was held against her will for three days by Savon Dooney Dennis, 45, of Bakersfield. While being held, Dennis punched the victim in the face. He also held a knife to the victim’s throat and sexually assaulted her. Dennis then threated to kill the victim if she tried to escape or report the crimes to anyone. Dennis was located and arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, spousal abuse, criminal threats, false imprisonment, rape by force, and a probation violation. Dennis is on post-release community supervision pursuant to AB-109. On April 4, 2011, Assembly Bill 109 was approved, placing non-violent, non-serious and non-sexual offenders under county-level supervision after their release from state prison. The victim was treated at a local hospital for her injuries. The victim and suspect are known to one another.
