For Immediate Release July 23, 2013
On Monday, July 22, 2013, at 10:09 pm, the Bakersfield Police Department responded
to the closed Westside Parkway near Coffee Road for a vehicle versus a bicyclist
collision. The investigation revealed an adult male from Bakersfield was riding his
bicycle on the closed roadway without wearing a helmet. The bicyclist was struck by a
construction pickup travelling on the roadway. The bicyclist was transported to a local
area hospital for moderate injuries. Alcohol and drugs are not a factor in this collision.
The Bakersfield Police Department wants to remind the community the Westside
Parkway is closed to vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians until the Westside Parkway is
officially opened.
