Resolutions
Item 8g. Minimum Wage Increase. As of January 1, 2017, the minimum wage in
California increased from $10 to $10.50 per hour. This increase will impact pay scales for
certain regular and temporary positions throughout the organization. Specifically, the laborer
positon and various temporary positions within the Recreation and Parks Department will
have pay scales adjusted to account for the new minimum wage law. Staff estimates the
change will result in a $56,000 increase in payroll costs for 2017. Under the current state law,
the minimum wage will continue to rise incrementally until 2022. This item is requested
amendments to two resolutions which set the salaries for the positions affected by this
change.
Miscellaneous
Item 8ad. Jefferson Pool Contribution. Over the past several months Jefferson Park
Pool has undergone a significant surface restoration to ensure the facility remains in
satisfactory condition for community -wide use. In addition, City staff has identified the need
to enhance perimeter fencing to increase security and deter vandalism. Kern High School
W9
District (KHSD) utilizes the pool each season for student practice and swim meets. KHSD has
provided a contribution of $42,000 to assist the City with making these improvements, which
will benefit all pool users, including the high school swimmers. Staff is requesting the Council
appropriate the funds to complete these improvements. Staff wishes to recognize and thank
KHSD for its generous contribution.
