Curbside trash and recycling services will not be affected. Notable Items  City staff and Mayor Goh joined a delegation from Bakersfield and Kern County at the state capitol this week to discuss regional economic development activities with state leaders. City Manager’s Office staff, Kern County government officials, Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce staff and representatives from Tejon Ranch met with Senators Shannon Grove and Melissa Hurtado, as well as Assembly Members Vince Fong and Rudy Salas on several important economic development initiatives. The group also met with Chief Economic and Business Advisor to the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development, Lenny Mendonca, to discuss several economic development opportunities in Bakersfield and the region. All of the meetings were very positive and productive. We thank our hosts at the capitol for meeting with us! General Information August 30, 2019 Page 2  The Development Services and Public Works Departments reported a very productive meeting with the Home Builders Association after the HBA brought a number of items of concern to the Planning and Development Committee meeting on Permit Streamlining in July. The two departments and the HBA discussed all 22 items, as well as some others. At least six of the items may be addressed with an electronic Plan Check system. Staff is working on a Request for Proposal for such a system. Development Services plans to meet with the HBA again to continue discussions about Permit Streamlining.  The August 2019 edition of the monthly Public Safety and Vital Services Newsletter was released on Monday, August 26. You can view the newsletter by clicking here: http://bit.ly/341WfR1  The Bakersfield Police Department hosted the Principled Policing at the Kern County Superintendent of Schools Office on Thursday, August 29. The eight-hour training is a class for all department staff regarding procedural justice and its four tenets: Voice, Respect, Neutrality, and Trustworthiness. Members of the community are invited to attend and share perspectives that help promote this process in order to help build trust between the police and the community. A total of 25 staff and five community members attended the event.  In honor of the Labor Day weekend and the end of summer, the City of Bakersfield will be extending the spray park hours of operation to 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. all weekend, starting the morning of Saturday, August 31. Monday, September 2 will be the last day of operations for the summer season.  McMurtrey Aquatic Center will be open for General Swim from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. all three days this weekend as well.  Banda MS de Sergio Lizárraga, a Latin music act from Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico, will take the stage at Rabobank Arena Friday, August 30 at 8 p.m. Traffic Advisories General Information August 30, 2019 Page 3  Nighttime lane closures planned for State Route 99 next week Nighttime lane closures have been scheduled for northbound State Route 99 between State Route 58 and Ming Avenue on Tuesday, September 3 and Wednesday, September 4. The lane closures are expected to be in place between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., each night. The contractor will be setting temporary concrete barrier rail along the inside and outside northbound lanes. Only one lane will be closed at a time and all three lanes will be open to traffic in time for the morning commute. This work may be cancelled and rescheduled without notice due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Please slow down and watch for construction workers and equipment while driving through the area. The Thomas Roads Improvement Program apologizes for any inconvenience this work may cause the traveling public.  Nighttime lane connector ramp closure on Northbound State Route 99 to Eastbound State Route 58 Nighttime closures are planned for the northbound State Route 99 to eastbound State Route 58 connector ramp from Tuesday, September 3 through Thursday, September 5. The closures are expected to be in effect between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., each night. The closures are needed to place concrete for the approach slabs at the new connector ramp bridge. Northbound motorists wanting to access eastbound State Route 58 will need to exit the freeway at Ming Avenue. The detour route will follow Ming Avenue to northbound H Street. Motorists can enter eastbound State Route 58 at the H Street interchange. Work may be rescheduled without notice due to unforeseen circumstances. Please slow down and watch for construction workers and equipment while driving in the vicinity of this work.
