Notable Items
In an effort to continue to beautify Bakersfield,
the City this week announced the launch of its Clean City Initiative. The program – which is
funded by the Public Safety & Vital Services
(PSVS) Measure – includes six clean-up teams
from the California Highway Adoption Company
and the Bakersfield Homeless Center that will
improve the look of our City as well as quality of life for our residents and visitors. Through six days
of activity so far, the teams have already cleaned up 560 large bags worth of trash, 24
mattresses, 11 carts and 17 large or bulky
items! (right)

The State’s Regional Stay Home Order was
lifted on Monday,
January 25, after seven
weeks. That action returned Kern County and Bakersfield to Tier 1 (purple tier) in the
State’s Blueprint for a safer economy. The City continues to encourage everyone to
follow that guidance, as well as the recommendations from the Centers for Disease

Control and Kern County Department of Public Health with regards to wearing masks and social distancing while in public.
The Bakersfield Fire Department has sent a Regional Task Force Team (RTF-11) of 29 members to Monterey County this week to help assist in case
of potential mud and debris flows in the town of Marina (left & below). There were many large fires
in the area over the last year, which has created
the potential for mudslides in these communities.
This team will help with any search and rescue
efforts, stabilize structures, and water rescues.
The popular low-cost pet vaccine clinic
returns next weekend,
from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, February 6, at Jefferson Park (801 Bernard Street).
This will be a drive-thru clinic where dog owners can have their pets vaccinated,
licensed and even microchipped. Anyone who attends must wear a mask and social
distancing and other COVID-19 precautions will be enforced.
On Tuesday, January 26, City staff held a virtual meeting with the community to
receive feedback on the new Transformative Climate Communities Plan. The public
was invited to participate in the Zoom meeting to discuss the plan and hear residents’
priorities for projects, policies and programs for Downtown, Old Town Kern, Oleander,
Sunset, and Lakeview.
Around 70 community members participated in the discussion, which was both
engaging and informative. Staff will finalize the plan based on the feedback received
during the meeting.

NEW CLEAN CITY INITIATIVE CLEAN-UP TEAMS NOW IN SERVICE
The City of Bakersfield has launched its most recent Clean City Initiative effort, clean-
up teams that will improve the look of our City as well as quality of life for our residents.
The new teams will respond to calls for service throughout the City reported through
the Bakersfield Mobile app, as well as provide regular clean-up of “hot spot” areas
and address other community-focused clean-up efforts as directed by City staff.
These teams are part of agreements with the California Highway Adoption Company
and the Bakersfield Homeless Center. Both teams will provide litter and illegal
dumping abatement services.
For several years, the community has expressed interest in enhancing the “first impression” of the City to visitors, specifically, finding ways to reduce illegal dumping
and littering along streets, alleys, major access points to the City, in public spaces,
and in other highly visible areas of Bakersfield.
The City’s Clean City Initiative – funded by the Public Safety & Vital Services Measure
(also known as Measure N) – is a multi-pronged program with the goal of reducing
the amount of litter, debris and illegal dumping throughout the City.
The program includes enhanced litter abatement activities, enforcement
components, as well as establishing more convenient opportunities for the
community to dispose of bulky waste items. For example, the City held two, two-day
holiday waste collection events the first weekend of January.
The City of Bakersfield is proud to provide the Clean City Initiative and remains
committed to improving the lives of its residents and our many visitors.

For Immediate Release January 28, 2021 Due to ongoing restrictions and precautions being taken amidst the Coronavirus pandemic, the City of Bakersfield Animal Control unit would like to notify city residents the February 6th, 2021 vaccine clinic is scheduled to be held at Jefferson Park, at 801 Bernard Street, with the following safeguards:
1. Clinic stations will be set up near the street; however, this will be a drive through
event. 2. Please remain in your vehicle and staff will make contact to distribute forms and provide directions on how to complete. 3. Customers without vehicles will be asked to complete the form and return at a
designated time for services.
4. Bi-lingual staff will be available. 5. We do not provide vaccines for cats at the outdoor clinics. 6. All customers will be required to wear masks when interacting with Animal Control staff, medical staff or volunteers.
