HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/06/2021CC OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER August 6, 2021 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Christian Clegg, City Manager SUBJECT: General Information Notable Items  The City’s Solid Waste Division will host a pair of pop-up bulky item drive-thru events on Saturday, August 14 from 8 a.m. to noon. The events will be held at the parking lots of Kaiser Permanente Sports Village (9001 Ashe Road) and at 4200 Panorama Drive. The last events, held on June 5, collected more than 24,000 pounds worth of trash from more than 240 residents. These events are part of Bakersfield’s Clean City Initiative and are funded by the Public Safety & Vital Services (PSVS) Measure.  The City Clerk’s Office is accepting applications to fill 10 vacancies on the Youth Commission: • Mayor appointment • Ward 1: regular and alternate appointments • Ward 2: regular and alternate appointments • Ward 4: regular appointment • Ward 6: regular and alternate appointments • Ward 7: regular and alternate appointments Applicants must be City residents, current high school students at the time of appointment, and maintain as close to a 3.0 grade point average as possible. Anyone interested in applying for these openings can do so at the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall North (1600 Truxtun Avenue) or by downloading an application from the City’s website here. All applications must be returned to the Clerk’s Office. Traffic Advisories  Nighttime closure at Stockdale Highway and North Stine Road A nighttime closure has been scheduled for the intersection of Stockdale Highway and North Stine Road. This intersection will be closed between the hours of 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. from August 10 through the evening of August 12. The closure is needed to pour the stem General Information August 6, 2021 Page 2 and soffit on Stockdale. During the closure, residents can detour around the work zone by using McDonald Way or Real Road to enter or exit the neighborhood. All other traffic will be routed around the area using Oak Street and California Avenue. Construction schedules may be changed without notice due to unforeseen circumstances. The Thomas Roads Improvement Program apologizes for any inconvenience this work may cause the traveling public.  Reconstruction of New Stine Road from Ming Avenue to Stockdale Highway On August 2, 2021, the City of Bakersfield will begin a project to reconstruct the roadway on New Stine Road from Ming Avenue to Stockdale Highway. The working hours for the project are 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, Monday through Friday. During the reconstruction of the roadway, traffic will be reduced down to one lane in each direction. In addition, access to side streets may be affected during construction activities. Detours and alternate access points will be provided during these closure periods. This will result in traffic delays, so drivers are advised to use caution, and to take alternate routes, or allow extra travel time through this area. All work on this project is scheduled to be completed on October 15, 2021. Please Note: Construction work may be postponed and rescheduled without notice due to inclement weather, or other unforeseen conditions. The following positions are open: Mayor – Regular appointment Ward 1 – Regular and alternate appointments Ward 2 – Regular and alternate appointments Ward 4 – Regular appointment Ward 6 – Regular and alternate appointments Ward 7 – Regular and alternate appointments Each Councilmember appoints two members from their respective Wards to the commission; the Mayor appoints two members from the City at-large. Applicants must be City residents, current high school students at the time of appointment, and maintain as close to a 3.0 grade point average as possible. The Youth Commission identifies the concerns and needs of local youth, including matters related to: recreational opportunities, park amenities, student safety, and volunteer opportunities with the City. Jefferson Park Pool Facility (Perimeter Fence Vandalism Repair) • 7/25/2021- The RRT made temporary fence repairs at the southeast side of the fence, that was cut open due to vandalism, until the contractor can complete fence material repairs. • 7/28/2021- The RRT made temporary fence repairs at the northeast side of the fence, that was cut open due to vandalism, until the contractor can complete fence material repairs. 2. Beale Park (Encampment Clean-Up) • The RRT assisted Code Enforcement with an encampment clean-up and removed a small amount of trash which was able to be disposed of at the dumpster bin onsite. 3. The Park at Riverwalk (Amphitheater Seat Sanitizing) • 7/28/2021- The RRT assisted with sanitizing and cleaning all the amphitheater seats in preparation for the scheduled concert event. • 7/29/2021- The RRT continued and completed the amphitheater seat clean-up. 4. Mesa Marin Sports Complex (Perimeter Fence Windscreen Replacement) • The RRT re-adjusted the new windscreens recently installed at ball diamond Field 3 and began replacement of the existing worn/damaged windscreens at ball diamond Field 4. 5. Siemon Park (Restroom Window Modification) • The RRT completed the restroom building window modification at both men’s and women’s sides due to vandalism and to prevent further damage to the existing decorative block. 6. Saunders Park (Irrigation Line Repair) • The RRT located a water leak and repaired a 1” irrigation line in the turf area southwest of the Pavilion. 7. Saunders Park (Pavilion Electrical Cabinet Modification) • The RRT re-secured the existing utility cabinet located southeast of the indoor Pavilion, due to vandalism. Miscellaneous 1.Campus Park South (Playground Equipment) • The RRT secured the damaged step area leading to the spiral slide at Campus Park South until replacement parts can be ordered and arrive. Ongoing Projects 1. Greystone Park (Trash Enclosure Modification) • The RRT will schedule fabrication and installation of a new cover on the existing trash enclosure. 2. McMurtrey Aquatics Center (Wrought Iron Fence Modification) • The RRT will schedule wrought iron fence modification on west side concession area to prevent illegal entry. 3. Mesa Marin Sports Complex (Perimeter Fence Windscreen Replacement) • The RRT will be replacing the ball diamond fence windscreens at all four fields. • Work will continue only on weekends until the project is completed.
