KBB 20 -Anniversary, Certified October 5, 2001—Paul Yanez 1. Wednesday, September 15, 2021-5:15 pm: KBB City Council Presentation a. All KBBC members are encouraged to attend. If attending, please wear a KBB polo shirt if you have one. b. The report and PowerPoint presentation are due by September 1, 2021. Task: Planning committee to draft presentation with Jessica Felix the week August 16, 2021. Saturday, October 16, 2021: 17th Annual Make A Difference Day • Yokuts Park (Ward 3) is reserved. a. Schedule start time: TBD various times. b. Determine cleanup/other volunteer activity per Ward. I. Ray will recruit volunteers for a Yokuts Park cleanup. c. Volunteers April 2022: Select 20`^ Anniversary Event Type, Event Name, and Date— Available Date Options if it were at Mechanics Bank Arena, Theater, and Convention Center: April 4, 5, or 6, 2022 Motion to approve Wednesday, April 6, 2022 for the 20'^ Anniversary luncheon tentatively at the Mechanics Bank Arena: Ray Scott Second: Heather Pennella Motion: unanimously approved a. Set luncheon program: Deferred Task: Planning committee to draft program for KBBC approval on September agenda. b. Fundraising—review sponsor tiers to cover the costs of the 20'h Anniversary special event and Great American Cleanup (GAC) main event — Handout: Draft of tiers- Deferred Task: Planning committee to revise sponsor outreach one -sheet for review and approval on September agenda. Revision requests include smaller tier ranges, less details, and possibly a brief package rather than one -sheet. c. Marketing (1) Approve anniversary logo Motion to approve the anniversary logo with an amendment of the Keep America Beautiful Affiliate from white to gold lettering: Sophia Felix Second: Ray Scott Motion: unanimously approved (2) Sponsored promotional video • KGET finished a draft of the video on Friday August 13, 2021. It was sent to the City Managers Office and Attorney's Office for approval before it can be released to KBBC. The video will be released to the public at the City Council Meeting on September 15, 2021. KGET can also modify the video if KBBC needs it for anything else. • Brooks Douglass: Knows someone who can donate electronic billboard space. Saturday, April 30, 2022: 19th Annual GAC — Paul Yanez a. Set event announcement plan - Deferred Task: Social Media Committee to present ADA compliant save the date plan on Sept. agenda. C. b. Potential collaboration with Keep Kern Beautiful: Favorable idea TBD. d. Harvey L. Hall Volunteer of the Year Awards Program • 2 to 3 new volunteer awards to present at both the anniversary luncheon and at GAC main event. GAC will have the usual volunteer awards too. KAB Annual Report & Community Appearance Index — Paul Yanez and Jessica Felix 1. All Community Appearance Index surveys were submitted. Next year, new M 3 2 1 1 1 2 2 12 2. KAB annual report highlights: There were approximately 1,740 volunteers, 220 activities/events/meetings, 55,810 pounds of litter/illegal dumping cleaned up, 15,510 pounds of was reduction/recycling, 5 trees were planted, and 720 flowers were planted from July 1, 2020 to lune 30, 2021. D. Special Projects and Programs Funding Update — Paul Yanez and Jessica Felix 1. $5,000 Pacific Gas and Electric Company Sponsorship • Project code KAV634 was created for general unrestricted funds/funds yet to be earmarked. $5,000 from Pacific Gas and Electric Company is here until it is earmarked for projects. 2. Greenfield Walking Group Garden & Seeds of Inspiration Garden Funding Request for Solar Lighting. KBBC already earmarked $355 from Give Big Kern donations for solar lighting for these gardens. Paul has an anonymous sponsor to buy one light for Seeds of Inspiration Garden. Each light is about $170. Motion to approve $200.00 from Pacific Gas and Electric Company sponsorship to add to the Give Big Kern earmarking for solar lighting at Greenfield Walking Group Garden: Brooks Douglass Second: Heather Pennella Motion: unanimously approved 3. Tuesday, August 31, 2021: Bakersfield College Student Involvement Festival $25 Booth Fee Request Motion to approve $25.00 booth fee for the Bakersfield College Student Involvement Festival: Ray Scott Second: Sophia Felix Motion: unanimously approved • Event is from 30 am to 2 pm. Paul Yanez, Heather Pennella, Sophia Felix, and Brooks Douglass will volunteer and work the booth that day. Task: Jessica will send an email out as a reminder for the Bakenfield College Student Involvement Festival. California Coastal Cleanup, Saturday, September 18 — Mayoral Appointees — Heather Pennella Motion to move local cleanup date from Saturday September 18, 2021 to Saturday September 25, 2021 at Truxtun take at 8 am: Brooks Douglass Second: Crystal Pinthong Motion: unanimously approved 1. Heather Pennella will be out of the country the week of September 18, 2021. Select America Recycles Day as Saturday, November 13, 2021— Paul Yanez and Ray Scott Motion to approve Saturday, November 13, 2021 as America Recycles Day tentatively at Mechanics Bank Arena: Crystal Pinthong Second: Brooks Douglass Motion: unanimously approved Task: Hay will confirm if the date works for Mechanics Bank Arena, coordinate with businesses/organizations that will collect reusable and recyclable items from residents, and coordinate volunteer. G. Approval of Written Report(s) — Paul Yanez Motion to approve July Litter Subcommittee Report: Brooks Douglass Second: Heather Pennella Motion: unanimously approved 1. Litter Subcommittee July Report: John Enriquez a. John Liu Director of District 6 at Caltrans encouraged Bakersfield to apply for a Caltrans grant to do a multi-million dollar showcase beautification project. Caltrans is looking to hire a Clean California Coordinator for the State of California. Bakersfield will receive a Caltrans Public Relations Officer. b. Next meeting is scheduled for September 28, 2021 and more information will be provided regarding the $1.1 B for Clean California. 2. Beautification and Community Improvement Subcommittee July Report: Monica Cater • Monica met with Seeds of Inspiration Garden in July. Security has become less of an issue there due to the tools being stored off site. They are interested in solar lighting. Task: Monica to submit July report and schedule September T^ subcommittee meeting. a. Approval request for Seeds of Inspiration Community Garden banner and outreach booth fees • Declined request for reimbursement of booth fee for Lavender Festival. KBB and the City agree requests should come in advance as discussed with the garden before. • KBBC logo would need to be included on the banner, if KBB were to pay for it. Task: Monica will follow up with Carla at Seeds of Inspiration regarding the status of the banner. 3. Graffiti Abatement Subcommittee: Monica Cater a. Utility Box Mural Updates • New utility box mural at Wible Rd. & Pacheco Rd. has been completed. • One utility box in the auto mall the City owns has a mural underway. It should be completed by the end of this month. • Utility box mural by Downtown School is almost done. • Utility box mural downtown at 1811 & M St. should be done in September. • Utility box mural at 20th & Chester Ave. was tagged. The City painted over it. This was not a KBB mural. (1) Downtown artist approval, 181h St. & Chester Ave. • Muralist plans to return to Bakersfield in October 2021. Monica is interested in asking KBBC and this artist to do over several utility box murals on Chester Ave. Task: Monica to coordinate with KBBC, Councilmember Gonzales, and potential artist. (2) Downtown utility box mural request, 19th & M St. 4. Advisory Board: Cathy Butler - Deferred V. Staff Comments • Jessica Felix: Thanks to everyone for what was accomplished for the annual report during the pandemic. Hopefully 2022 will be better. • Brianna Carrier: City Manager is asking KBBC if its presentation to City Council slated for Sept. 15 could be postponed to October. KBBC responded that they want to keep Sept. 15 to promote the 20'" anniversary. • Greg 011ivier: Thanks for everyone's time and efforts. Happy to see people getting together in person. • Mayor Karen Gob: Thanked everyone for their efforts and appreciated what everyone has done. VI. KBBC and Advisory Board Comments • Crystal Pinthong: Apologized for not being as involved due to health issues, but is doing better and is glad to be back. • Heather Pennella: Accepted a position as the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations for California State University of Bakersfield. Excited she gets to stay in the community and still be a part of KBBC. She will be quiet through September as she is transitioning into her newjob. • Brooks Douglass: Thanked everyone for attending the meeting. Asked to put on the agenda for next month's meeting to change the bylaws to make all appointees committee members rather than have half remain as alternates. Deputy City Attorney, Viridiana Gallardo-King commented that it is not as simple as just amending the by-laws since the ordinance would have to be amended as well (requires City Council action). An update will be provided by Mrs. Gallardo-King at next month's meeting. • John Enriquez: Great job everyone, have a wonderful weekend, and be safe. • Paul Yanez: Nice to be able to get together and thanked everyone for their time.
