S_ APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion was mode by Mr. Lucas —1 seconded by Mr. Anderson to approve the minutes for the Regul-r Meeting of August 4, 2021 6_ WORKSHOP o_ RECRUITMENT ASSESSMENT CENTER - Christi Tenter presented the Commission o proposed -hong- to the examination process for Assistant Police Chief; in Ci ACTION TAKEN NO ACTION APPROVED accordance to Police Civil Service Rule 6.01 - "The board shall establish scope for all examinations, which may include a written test, oral examination, background investigation, physical agility test, practical application test, and other means for determining the relative fitness of applicants for employment or promotion." Ms. Tenter discussed considerations when testing for an Assistant Police Chief and past testing processes. Ms. Tenter proposed including a Recruitment Assessment Center in the upcoming examination process. Ms. Tenter explained that the Assessment Center method can include various types of work sample tests, practical simulations, and interviews to aid in the candidate selection process. Benefits of using an Assessment Center process include a broader range of selection methods, allows for assessment of existing and future performance, offers candidates several opportunities to distinguish themselves from other candidates, and it provides candidates more specific insight into the role. The workshop was received and filed. 7. NEW BUSINESS a. REQUEST TO OPEN EXAM #01551 - ASSISTANT POLICE CHIEF - Shayla Woods - Collins submitted a request and a proposed job bulletin to the Commission for approval to open the examination for Assistant Police Chief, Examination #01551. It will open September 3, 2021, with a filing deadline of September 17, 2021. Ms. Woods -Collins advised that the request to open the examination includes a change to the examination process to utilize the Assessment Center process discussed in Item 6 a. The tentative date to start testing is October 11, 2021. Mr. Anderson made a motion to approve the examination for Assistant Police Chief Examination #01551 with utilization of the Assessment Center testing process; the motion was seconded by Mr. Lucas and carried unanimously. b. CERTIFICATION OF COMMUNITY RELATIONS SPECIALIST, EXAMINATION #01539 - Tracy Sunkes submitted Community Relations Specialist Eligible List, Examination #01539 to the Commission for review and certification of nine candidates. Mr. Lucas made a motion to certify Community Relations Specialist Eligible List #01539; the motion was seconded by Mr. Anderson and carried unanimously. C. NEPOTISM WAIVER REQUEST(S) FOR COMMUNITY RELATIONS SPECIALIST CANDIDATE(S) - Tracy Sunkes advised because of the Community Relations Specialist Eligible List, she is submitting two Nepotism Waiver Requests to the Commission for review and approval for Community Relations Specialist Candidates Martha Balandran and Joanna Alonso. Ms. Sunkes advised the Nepotism Waiver Requests were reviewed by Assistant Chief Mike Hale and he recommends approval. Mr. Anderson made a motion to approve the Nepotism Waivers for Community Relations Specialist Candidates Martha Balandran and Joanna Alonso; the motion was seconded by Mr. Lucas and carried unanimously. 8. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS Mr. Lucas expressed appreciation to Human Resources for the workshop presentation. 9.
