City Offices will be CLOSED Thursday, November 25th, and Friday, November 26th in
observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. As a result of the office closures, curbside trash
and recycling services will be delayed one day.
Notable Items
The 5th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting is scheduled to take place Saturday, November 27th. The event, which will be open to the public, will take place at Centennial Plaza outside Mechanics Bank Arena (1001 Truxtun Avenue) and will begin at 4:30 p.m.
Mayor Karen Goh and City Councilmembers are expected to speak during the event,
which will feature a live nativity scene, music and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.
The Christmas Tree Lighting will precede the Bakersfield Condors’ annual Teddy Bear Toss game, which starts at 7 p.m.
The City’s annual Holiday Grease Collection event returns next week. Starting
Monday, November 29th, residents are asked to bring
any used cooking oil and
grease to one of two drop-off
locations for proper disposal.

event ends Friday, Jan. 7, 2022.
As a reminder, pouring the oil and/or grease down home drains can result in clogged
pipes, causing backups and costly repairs. This
free service provides a place to dispose of the
oil and grease in a safe and environmentally
friendly way.
The Solid Waste Division hosted a pair of pop-up large item drop-off
events on Saturday,
November 13th (right),
collecting more than
24,000 pounds of trash
items.
These events – held at
Mechanics Bank Arena
and Riverlakes Ranch Community Center – are part of Bakersfield’s Clean City
Initiative and are funded by the Public Safety & Vital Services (PSVS) Measure.
The Mechanics Bank Arena location received 13,702 pounds of trash, as well as 26
tires and 25 mattresses. The Riverlakes Ranch Community Center location collected
10,580 pounds of trash, 100 pounds of recycling, 3,880 pounds of metal, 110 e-waste
items, six tires and 75 mattresses.
Since launching in January, the pop-up large item drop-off events have collected more than 550,000 pounds worth of trash items.
City staff will be holding a virtual Redistricting and Communities of Interest workshop
on Wednesday, Dec. 8th at 6 p.m. The link to join the online workshop will be available
on the City’s Ward Redistricting website https://www.bakersfieldcity.us/819/Ward-
Redistricting .
A Community of Interest (COI) is a group of people in the same geographically
definable area who share common social and economic interests. We look forward
to receiving feedback on the City’s potential COIs.
The City’s redistricting website also includes an online and PDF version of the COI form, a printable map template, and the schedule for the remainder of the public hearings
for the Redistricting process. The COI forms are available in both English and Spanish.
Note, for the Feb. 23, 2022, City Council meeting, the City’s Redistricting Process will be the main, if not only, item on the agenda. Comments and questions on the

redistricting process can be sent at any time to redistricting@bakersfieldcity.us
The City Council is recruiting nine individuals to serve on the Bakersfield Public Safety & Vital Services Measure Citizens Oversight Committee.
This Committee acts in an advisory capacity to review the expenditure of revenues generated by the tax imposed by Measure N. It also provides independent
verification that the revenues collected pursuant to the measure are expended in such a manner that is consistent with the priorities of the measure.
The term is for three years, which expires in February of 2025.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and a resident of the City.
Applications are available at the City Clerk’s Office or on the City’s website.
The application deadline is 5 p.m. on Wednesday, January 5, 2022.
Traffic Advisories
Nighttime closure continues for Stockdale Highway at North Stine Road
Nighttime closures are in place for Stockdale Highway at North Stine Road.
This roadway will be closed from Sunday through Thursday night through the second
week of December. The closure will be from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on these days. The closure
is needed for falsework removal.
During the closure, residents can detour around the work zone by using McDonald
Way or Real Road to enter or exit the neighborhood. All other traffic will be routed
around the area using Oak Street and California Avenue.
Construction schedules may be changed without notice due to unforeseen
circumstances. The Thomas Roads Improvement Program apologizes for any
inconvenience this work may cause the traveling public.

Projects Completed by RRT
1. Sumner Storage Facility (Vandalism Clean-Up)
• The RRT cleaned up trash that was removed from the dumpster bins and
scattered throughout the facility due to vandalism and illegal entry. Illegal homeless encampments were also set up inside the facility and cleared out by
Code Enforcement.
2. Bike Path @ Chester Avenue (Bollard Post Replacement – Vandalism)
• The RRT replaced damaged bollard posts located on the east side of Chester Ave. at the bike path entrance.
3. San Miguel Grove (Parking Lot Gate Repair – Vandalism)
• The RRT modified and re-installed the existing parking lot entry gates due to
vandalism and damaged caused by a vehicle after park operating hours.
4. Brahma St & Linnell Way (Tumbleweed Removal)
• The RRT removed the existing tumbleweeds from a future park site located at Brahma St. and Linnell Way.
• Loads were taken to Bena Landfill for disposal (total weight 23,180 lbs.).
Miscellaneous
1. Area 1 – Northwest (Irrigation Work Requests)
• The RRT assisted Area 1 with completing irrigation work requests as needed due
to personnel vacancies.
2. 1600 Truxtun Avenue (Office Furniture Re-location)
• The RRT removed and relocated existing office furniture at City Hall North 3rd
floor, as part of the new carpet installation project.
• The RRT will continue to assist with removing/relocating furniture on the 3rd floor,
as the contractors progress with the installation.
3. Campus Park South (Play Equipment Replacement – Vandalism)
• The RRT removed and replaced a climber step which was vandalized at the 5-12
play area.
4. Mechanics Bank Arena (Outdoor Stage Tile Replacement)
• The RRT replaced two missing floor tiles at the outdoor stage and temporarily repaired two additional tiles until replacements can be ordered and installed.
5. Siemon Park (Access Improvements)
• The RRT replaced the playground sand that was temporarily removed due to the
improvement project. The RRT also backfilled edges along newly installed
concrete with dirt as part of the improvement project as well.
6. Stone Creek Park (Playground Rehabilitation Project)
• The RRT removed temporary fencing and backfilled edges along newly installed
concrete with dirt as part of the rehabilitation project.
7. Silver Creek Park Community Center (Office Key Box Installation)
• The RRT assembled and installed a new security key box inside the office.
8. Bike Path @ Calloway Drive (Irrigation Repair)
• The RRT repaired an irrigation line on the west side of Calloway Dr. adjacent to the
bike path.
Ongoing Projects
1. Greystone Park (Trash Enclosure Modification)
• The RRT will schedule fabrication and installation of a new cover on the existing
trash enclosure.
2. McMurtrey Aquatics Center (Wrought Iron Fence Modification)
• The RRT will schedule wrought iron fence modification on west side concession area to prevent illegal entry.
3. Mesa Marin Sports Complex (Perimeter Fence Windscreen Replacement)
• The RRT will be completing replacement of the ball diamond fence windscreens
at Field 4 once the additional screens arrive.
