Public Statements — Elizabeth Spavento- Executive Director, Arts Council of Kern • Brianna Carrier is the Arts Council of Kern Chairperson. • April 18 - 24, 2022, is the Plein Air Festival. • Downtown Paint Out on Thursday at the Bakersfield Art Association. The event is free. Artists paint cityscapes. The artwork can be purchased. • April 24, 2022, is the Spring Soiree Celebration. Tickets are $80.00 each and can be purchased at kernarts.org. • In May 2022, Elizabeth will take a listening tour of Kern County to get feedback to help develop an Arts and Culture Program downtown. The program would start in 2023. • Ideas include creating a permanent artist studio center in Bakersfield. III. Special Projects and Programs Funding Update— Brooks Douglass and Jessica Felix 1. Currently it's estimated that with what's been received and what's been promised there would be about $45,000 raised for KAV608 for the anniversary luncheon and Great American Cleanup to share. 2. GAC in -kinds include Frito-Lay for chips and 95.7 FM for the playlist, PA, and PSAs. B. Recap Wednesday, April 6, 2022: KBB 20th Anniversary Luncheon — Paul Yanez, Ray Scott 1. Luncheon went smoothly, food provided by Aramark was well received. City Technology Services did a great job. Everyone who came seemed to enjoy it. 2. Jenifer VanAlstein did a great job filling in for Jim Scott. 3. There were 32 tables with 240 - 260 people in attendance. We budgeted for 200 people. 4. Perhaps a luncheon could be held every 5 years with a group photo at the beginning of the event. 5. The event brought a lot of visibility to KBB, the history, and the idea to help volunteer for cleanups. C. Saturday, April 30, 2022: 19th Annual Great American Cleanup (GAC) — Paul Yanez, Ray Scott 1. Vote for Dr. Harvey L. Hall Volunteer of the Year Award Winners for GAC Awards & Recognition Ceremony • Motion to approve Southwest Carpenters, Clinica Sierra Vista, City Serve, Youth of the Greenfield Walking Group Garden, Youth of the Seeds of Inspiration Garden, New Advances for People with Disabilities, and Jenifer VanAlstein for the Dr. Harvey L. Hall Volunteer of the Year Awards: Heather Pennella Second: Ray Scott Motion: unanimously approved Additional and Potential Ceremony/Stage Presentations and Performances • No more than 3 to 4 acts/performances from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. • Lunch is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m. • Ceremony is from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Task. Heather Pennella will reach out Amy Adams at Garden Pathways to see if the Rising Stars can perform. Task. Matthew Martin will reach out to Jim Ranger to see if he would sing the National Anthem. KBBC Member and KBB Advisory Board Member Assignments (8:00 a.m. —10:00 a.m.) • Ray Scott volunteered to work the booths. • Paul Yanez volunteered to manage parking at Yokuts Park. • Matthew Martin will be traveling and won't be available before 10:00 a.m. • Brooks Douglass will assist anywhere as needed. • Individuals who want to help must register though Eventbrite. • John Enriquez and Heather Pennella will be assigned downtown. Task. Jessica Felix will email assignments to KBBC and KBB Advisory Members. Task. Paul Yanez will contact volunteer Explores to help with parking at GAC. 4. Next meeting: 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2022: Meeting in City Hall —South, Caucus Room • Ray Scott will be in Sacramento Tuesday and won't be able to attend meeting. • Brooks Douglass will be out of town. D. Tuesday, May 3, 2022: Give Big Kern Fundraiser Program —Brooks Douglass 1. Jessica Felix showed KBBC the Give Big Kern donor webpage for KBB. People can use the website to make donations now. The main giving day is May 3. The weblink can be shared in social media and email. 2. There will be a prize for organization that has all their board members donate. Give Big Kern tracks it. E. Approval of Written Reports — Brooks Douglass 1. Beautification and Community Improvement Subcommittee January Report: Monica Cater, Chair 2. Litter Subcommittee March Report: John Enriquez, Chair 3. Graffiti Abatement Subcommittee March Report: Zech Garcia, Chair Motion to approve all three reports: Ray Scott Second: Heather Pennella Motion: unanimously approved V. Staff Comments • Jessica Felix: Keep America Beautiful has awarded KBB the in -kind grant for cigarette butt containers. KBBC is nominated for the Beautiful Bakersfield Award within the humanitarian category. The 2nd round of the nomination process still needs to be completed. The awards gala will be in June. • Renee Plotner: Enjoyed the luncheon and glad to attend. Everyone did a phenomenal job. Looking forward to future meetings and GAC. • Josh Rudnick: Filled in for Viri Gallardo-King today. A lot of changes with the new laws and historic preservation. Glad to be here, but won't be able to attend GAC. • Greg 011ivier: Couldn't attend the luncheon but heard how well it turned out. Looking forward to a great turn out at GAC. VI. KBBC and Advisory Board Comments • Cathy Butler: State of the Downtown Breakfast was held this morning. KBB received the perpetual trophy for its 20th Anniversary. KBB can keep the trophy for a year. John Enriquez accepted the award, and a picture was taken with the board members who were in attendance. In 2019, the trophy was given to the Bakersfield Homeless Center for the Downtown Street Ambassador Program. • Ray Scott: Burrtec is over local contract waste haulers. Ray is working with Caltrans and CalReycle for the 2028 Olympics waste management. Ray asked Josh Rudnick if a KBBC Members could be given an emeritus title when they leave the KBBC. Ray would like to open the discussion more at the May KBBC meeting. • Jenilee Fermin: This is her first official meeting as a KBBC member. She had a great orientation with Jessica Felix. She'll be in contact with John Enriquez on how he does his trash cleanups. She'll assist with a cleanup on Monday April 11, 2022, at Wayside Park and do an Earth Day project with the Greenfield Walking Group Garden. More volunteers are welcome. • Heather Pennella: The umbrella mural on Eye St between 191h St and 201h St. inspired by the Christo art project could be restored prior to the economic summit this fall. An artist and sponsor are available. The property owner's permission is needed. This will not be a KBBC project. • Brooks Douglass: Please reach out to the Public Works director to assist with the walkthroughs of downtown to help prep for the economic summit this fall. Vill.
