City Engineer, Defining Their Duties, and Fixing Their Salar~s.
The Board of Trustees o:.F .the City of Bakersfield do ordain as
follows :-
" .Section L There shall be a superintendent of streets and a
· - -~ity engineer of this city appointed by and who shall holCt-~ffiee
at the pleasure of the board of trustees, and who shall before
qualifying as such officers execute a bond with two or more good
and sufficient sureties, to be approved b?'the board of trustees
in the penal sum of One thousand dollars,' for the :.~aithful per-
formance of their duties as such officers. '~:-
Section 2 It is the duty..of the engineer, 'onder the direction
of the board of trustees, to fix the grade of all streets, alley-
ways and sidewalks in this city and report the same to t_he board,
which, ~fter adoption by the board, shall be obligatory on all
ovmers of property within this city.
Sect~ The City ~:~hgineer shall keep a record qf all su~eys
and measurements made under the provisions of this Ordinance in a
book or books to be kept for that purpose. All records of sur-
veys and all calculation books pertaining to street or other
city work, with all tromps, pllans and profiles, in which the city
can in any mariner be znterested, shall be and remain the proper-
, ty of the city, and shafi be kept in a secure place open to pub-
lic inspection. And all such books, plans, maps and pro-
mitred to his successor in office. ' ......... J'~' ~-
~ It is the duty of the ~pe?inte~dent of streets to
oversee and control all work and labor don~"i'~on the streets, al.t. ey..~
and sidewalks of this city, .and see that the same conform to
law and the orders and ordinances of this city.
~ection _8. Thc city Engineer shall receive the stem of
dollars per day for each day of his own time devoted to s~id work
· .' The City Engineer shall be allowed ~~---~-~ dollars per
day for each chain~,an, rodman, or stake driver employed by him.
The superintendent of streets shall be allowed ~ dol-
lars per day for each day of his ovm time actually devoted to
said work.
Section 6 The Superintendent' of Streets shall keep a tine boo/',
in which he ~-mAst enter the time actually employed, and that of
the City Engineer on each piece of~ work done by the city under
'a resolution of intention of its Bosrd of Trustees, and at the
end of the ~nonth prepai~ a pay. roll and foreward the same to the
contractor of such piece of work being done under such
resolution of intentions, :and the asses..mnent and apportiom-aent
of such incidental expenses, so assessed and apportioned~ Shall
he paid to the Superintendent of. Streets by th~ contractor.
Section ?_. The amounts paid by the co~.t,.ractor shall be includ-
ed in the assessment on completion of the work, and collected
from the property owner as incidental expenses by said contractor
Section 8. This ordinance shall be in force and efTect from mud
after its passage and publication as required by law.
