An Ordinance calling a Special Election to be held in the ·City_
of Bakersfield on the 27t.b. ~.~V of March, 1907, and submitting to the
qualified voters of said City the proposition of incurring a debt in the
sum of Fifty Thousand Dollars for the purpose of acquiring and constructing
a City Hall with furnishings, together ~itb. a site or tract of land upon
which the same may be located and constructed; providing for the issuan.ce
of bonds therefor, and for the levying of a tax for the payment of said
bonds; designating the polling place at wh.~.ch said election shall be
held, and a~point.~.ng ~.he election of*leers of 'said election.
Whereas, the Boa~'d of Trustees of the City of Bakersfield at its
meeting of February 4, ,1907, by a vote of two thirds of all its mcr&ers,
duly passed and adopted a resolution dete~nining that the public interest
and necessity de,haled t'he ac'~ulsition and construction by the said
City of Bakersfield of a certain municipal improvememt, namely:
A building, with furnishings therefor, to be known as a City Hall
in which the business of the municil~ality may be transacted, together'
with a site or tract of land upon which to locate and construct ~he same,
· which is necessary and convenient to carry out the. objects, purposes and
powers of the City of Bakersfield and which is to be used for municipal
purposes, and also by said resolution specified that an indebtedness
would be incurred against said City, and the'amount %hereof, and that
bonds would be issued therefor: and
Whereas, sai~ resolution was approved by the President of the
Board of Trustees on the 4th day of February, 1907, and'
Whereas, the estimated cost of '~e ~aid City.Hall;. Wit:h its
furnishings, toge$,her with a si2e or tract of 'land upon which to locate
and construct the same is the sum of Fifty Thousand Dollars, and such
cost is, and will be too great to be paid out of the ord,.nary annual income
and revenue of said City. -..~
Now, thereffore, the Board of Trustees of the City of Bakersfield,
do ordain as follows:
Section 1. That a Special Election be and the s~me is hereb.~:.'

Section 2. That the obJects and purposes for which said
imdebtedne,ss is proposed to be lncurre~ and create~ are the acquisition
an~ const~ction by the City of Bakersfiel~ of a certain municipal im-
provem~t, n~ely, a building, with furnishings thereof, for m~iolpal
uses, to be known as a City l~all, in which the business of the m~icipality
may be transaote~, together with a site or tract of land u. pon which to

Section 3. ~hat if the proposition of incurring ~he indebtedness

requisite n~ber of votes, to-wit, two thirds of the voters of the

with furnishings, together with a site or tract of lan~ upon which to
locate and construct the s~e.
Section 4. ~hat said bonds shall be eighty in n~ber and shall
be issued in the ~enomination of six h~re~ a~ twenty-five doilars
each, and the principal and interest thereof shall be payble in la~ul
money of the United States. They shall be ~ate~ the first day of '..lay, 1907,
an~ bear interest at the rate of fo~ a~ one half per cent. per ann~,
payable semi-annuall~ on the first day of November,' and the first day
of May, of every year. Said eighty bonds shall be payable in the manner

.Section 5. That f~r the purpose of ¥~a¥ing the principal and interest
of said bnds the Boa~l of Trustees ef ssid City shall a.+ the time ef
fixing the general tax levy, and in the manner for such general tax
levy provided, levy and collect annually, each year, until such bonds
are paid er until there shall be 'a sum in the treasury ef ..'.mid City

interest on such '5o~ls and also sue'h part r~f the principal thereof,

Said taxes shall be i.n addition to. all ether taxes levied for municipal
purposes, an~-1 'shall be collected at the same time and in the same manner
as other mmn,icipal taxes are collected and be used for no ether purposes
than the' payment of said bonds and accruing interest,
Section 6. The polls off said. election shall be open at six :
o~clock' in the morning e~ the day ef the election, and shall be kept
open until five eclock in the afternoon of the ssme de.y, when the polls~
shall be closed. The ba~lcts te be used at such election, shall be
prin~ed in 'th~ following form:

of and opposite the answe~ you desire to give.
Shall the City of Bakersfield incur a bonded indebtedness for
the sum of Fifty Thousand Dollars for the purposes of acquiring
and constructing a City Hall with fl~rnishings together with a site or

Section 7. The'-e shall be one voting precinct for said special
election hereby ordered, which precinct shall embrace all ef the territory'
included within the corporate linzits of the sai~ City of Bakersfield;
and said precinct shall be known as ~;~ Municipal Election Precinct No. 1."

Section 8. That in all particula~ ~ not recited in this ordin~ee,
such election shall be held as provided by law for holding Enicipal
elections in said Clt~.
Section 9. The City.· Clerk shall certify to the ps. ssage and adoption
of this ordinance bM a vote of two thirds of all ~e·members of the Beard

Section 10.' Th!z .~ordinance shall take effect from and ~ter its
pass~e and due publication.
Section ll. Ai~ ordinances and parts ef ordinances in ceDfllct
with this ordinance are hereb~ repealed.
