AS FOLLOWS ..
Section Ii ..There shall be a~pointed by the board of trustees
two persons whose duty it shall be to take the enumeration of the
i.~habitants of the City of BakerBfield]"the said ~ersons so appoin~
ted shall be l~own herein, as census marshals'and they shall hold
office only for such time as shall be necessary for them to take
such .enumeration,' or dur[n~ the p~easure of the board.
· Section. 2:; The duties of such census marshals· shall be to
visit each habitation, ho. me, residence, domicile, or place of
abode within the corporate limits of the City of Bakersfield, and
by a~tual observation and interrogation enumerate the inhabitants
thereof, and. in the census rolls so taken by such marshals the~
shall write the full name of each person ~lainly'~ and the names
shall be alphabetically arra.~ed and regularly numbered in one com'-
plete series'~' and when so completed shall be verified by such "
marshal before some officer authorized to administer oa%hs'~' and be
filed with the City clerk. .-"
Section 8'. The board of trustees shall by resolutiou'appoint
such census marshal~] and shall assign to each of such marshals
a certain district ef the city within which it shall be the
duty of such marshal to make the enumeration and take the ce~us^ as
herein provided.

sation'for his services a per dias of not to exceed the sue of...
