An ordinance' creating the offices of Superintendent of' St. reets
and City Engineer con.4ol'idating said tWo offices into one, defining
the duties of each"of them and fixing, the oompens~.%ion thereof.
The Bo'ard of Trustees of the City of Bakersfield do ordain as
fo 1 lows:
Section l--r-, There. shall be a Superintendent' 'al Str'e~t's. and a Oity
~ngineer of this City, which two offices shall be held by one ,Der-
son. He shall be 'aPpointed by and shall'hold office at the. pleasure
of the Board of Trustees';' he shall before qualifying for such office,
execute a" bond with two or more good and sufficient 'sure~'*.es, to be.
approved by the.' Board of Trustee~ in the penal sum of one thousand
'dollars for the faithful performance' of his duties pertaining to said
office.
Section ~ ...... I.t shall be the 'duty of said officer, as City ~ng. ineer
.under the direction of the Board of Trustees to fix the Grade of all
Streets, alley ways and sidewalks in this OitY, and. report the same
Go the. Board .
Section .3 .... H= shall, as City Engineer, keep a recor~ ~f all surveys
and measurements made under the provisions of this .ordinance, or other-
wise in a book or books to be kept for that' office. ~ll' records 'of
surveys' and all calculation books pertaining tO street or other city
work, with all maps, plans and prbfiles, in which the City Can', in any
.manner be intereste.c~, Shall be and remain the property of the City,
and shall be kept by him in his office, open for publico inspection.
And ali such books, plans, ~aps and profiles' shall be Carefully pre-
served by him.and tramsmitted to his successor in office- .
Section 4 ..... It shall be his dutT, as Superint~ndent of Streets to
oversee and co. ntrol all .work and !ahor done_.~.p_n_.$,h_e_..s~_.re__e_t_s:,__s, ll~eys',.~
and sidewalks of this. City, and to see. that. the same conform to. the
law and the orders and ordinances of this City.

Section 5____- He sb~ll receive: as compensation for all of his se.r-
'vice~ performed 'in the performing of the duties of said o££ice the

driver, employed by him.
Section 6~-~-- Ordinance Number 89, passed and adopted by the Board
of Truste~ on the .10th day.of August, 1'~0~,.: 'and all other, ordinances
