The Bo~rd o~ Trustees o~ the $~ty o~ BakersTield do ordain
follows;
Section;l;- The minim~ stend~rd quality and dll~in'ating power
of'g~s to be furnished by any person or ~-,ersons, firm,
aesoodation or oor,.~oretion, to be used in the City of Bakersfield
for' any s~d all~.~.!Iuminating purposes she. ll be, m.nd is hereby
eete.blished at nineteen candles end the minim~ heat undts
manufactured gas shall be 8BO British therme.1 units e.hd for
natural g~s 9~50 Br~tish thermal units, at four ounce pressure
per s~uare inch at the meter; said candle power, pressure and
hea~.'~its to be determined by'the Board 'o~.Trustees 6'f'the'
city of Bakersfield.
section 2;- That for the period commencing on the E~th de~y of ·
i~aroh 191~ and ending on the 2~t.h day of ~iareh, 'lgl~ the max~m~
rate of compensation ~hioh a~y person or persons, firm, company,
assoedation or oorooration nay charge, collect or receive for
ft~rnishing, distributing or delivering g~s to the City of
Bakersfdeld, or the in.habitents, thereof, for any and all illu~-
in, ting purposes is hereby fixed and established at the r~te
or p~'ice of ~I~TY OENTB for e~ch one thousend (1000~ cubic feet
. provided, .th~ the minim~ price for such furnishing of gas
for any one 'month shall be PIFTY OENTS, oaloulo, ted upon abe. siz
of four (~) ounces of pressure to the 'square inch at the meter. . ...
· " "'~' -SECTION 3,' That for the peri'Od'commencing on the 25th dsy of
l:..iaroh, 1913 ~:~nd ending on the 24th day of l~arch, 1914, the
maximum rate of compensation which any person or'persons, f~rm,
company, ass~oiation or corporation may charge', 'ooll. ect or
receive for :Furnishing, distrfbuting or .delivering gas to the
· City of Bakersfield, or the inhabitants thereof, for all
he~ting purposes, and all purposes other than illuminatf'ng
purposes, is hereby £ixed and established zt the rate or
price of FIFTY CENTS for each one thous~:~.nd. (1000~ cubic feet of
gas, and in this proportion for ·each ~r~.ctional part thereof,
provided, theft the minimum price f~r such furnishing of g:-s for
., any one month '~h~,..ll be Fifty Cents, c~.lculated upon a pressure
of four 14} ounce pressure to the square inch at the meter.
, SECTION 4;-· The maximum .rate or price in thds ordinance
specified shall be the maximum rate or price for the furnishdng,
distributing,, or delivering of said .gas, and shall be deemed
.. compensation for and sh~ll include nil rentels, interest,
· '~' labor, uses or services of whotever kind, employed· in the
manufacture, furnishing; distributing or delivery of said g~s,
by whatever'means including the use of meters.
SE'$TION .~.;--It shall be a violation of the provision.of this
ordJ. nm.noe, if the minimum standard quality and illuminating
power of g~s used for illuminating purposes shall be less than
the candle ·power ,'-'bove prescribed, to furnish, distribute or
deliver such gas ~t the rste or price above specified'or df
the ra. te of g~s charged, collected and received for all illum-
inating purposes as ~fores,~;d, be in excess of the rate 'or price
above s,necifi~d., ~r if 'th-e r~te of g~-:s ~h~',rged, collected :0r
received for sll he, ting purposes, and all'. purposes other than
illuminating pur!~oses, as ~fo'resaid~ be in excess .of the fete

or price above specified, and the .person or persons, fdrm,
company, association or corpOration, ~ndividually or.by
association with others,'either as owners principal, clerk,
collector, agent, servant or employee, violating any of the
provisions of this ordinance is ~ilty.of a misdemeanor, and
· upon conviction thereof, shall be fined in'a sum not less than
~ifty Dollars ($~0.00) nor more than Three·Hundred Dollars
($~00,00) or shall be imprisoned in the county J~il of Kern·
County for not more than sixty (60) days or by both such fine
and imprisonment; and every judgment or fine for violation of
any provision of th~.s ordinance sh~ll direct that in default of
~ayment of such fine, the person shall be imprisoned in the
County jmil of Kern County, until the fine is satisfied in the
proportion of one days imprisonment for every Two ($2.00)
Doll~rs of such fine remadning unpaid.
SECTION 6;- All ordinances and parts of ordinances dn conflict
herewith are hereby repealed.
SEOTION 7;- This ordinance shall be in full force and effect
thirty days· after its approval ~.nd passage and due publication
as required, by ls.w.
Passed ~.nd ~dopted this E~th day of February,. 191~ by the
following vote;
