AN ORDINANCE CALLING AND PROVIDING FOR A/~'D GIVING NOTICE OF SPECIAL ELECTION TO BE HE~,T,D IN THE CITY OF BAK~IRSFIELD, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, ON TUESDAY, JANUARY ll, 1916, FOR T}~ PURPOSE OF SUB~ITTIEG TO THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF SAID CITY, THE PROPOSITION WHETHER OR NOT ORDINANCE NO. 28?, PASSED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAETERoFIELD ON THE 20th DAY OF SEPT~IMB'~R, 1915, AND APPROVED BY THE MAYOR OF SAID CITY ON SAID DATE, SHALL BE ;$'~O~OFED OR REJECTED BY THE PEOPLE OF TRE CITY OF BAKER ~ELD ;' W}EEHEAS, the Council of the City of Bakersfield, did by on the 20th day of September, 1.915, pass an Ordinance entitled "An Ordinance Pr6viding for the Regulation of the Business of Using, Operating and D~ving Automobiles for hire upon the public streets of the City of Bakersfield; providing for licenses to carry on such business and for the revocation thereof; requiring the operators of such business to furnish bonds; making the violation of any of the provisions of this Ordinance a misde- meanor and providing a penalty therefor, and repealing all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith insofar as the same may be in conflict" , which said ordinance was on said date duly approved by the Mayor of the City of Bakersfield; and, ZStEPC~AS, thereafter a petition was made and filed with the clerk of the City of Bakersfield; and, VfHEPJ~,AS, said petition was in due time certified to by said clerk as having been sufficient for the purpose of requiring said ordinance to be submitted to the people of the City of Bakersfield for referendum vote. NOW, TITEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFI~ILD, -AS FOLLOWS: SECTION l: Special election is hereby called and ordered to be held in the City of Bakersfield, State of California, on Tuesday, the llth day of January, 191§, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified electors of said City, the proposition whether or not Ordinance ~287, entitled ,, An Ordinance providing for the regu- lation of the business of using, operating and driving automo- biles for hire upon the public streets of the City of Bakersfield; providing for licenses to carry on such business and for the revocation thereof; requiring the operators of such business to furnish bonds; making the violation of any of the provisions of this ordinance a misdemeanor and providinga penalty therefor; and repealing all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith insofar as the ssme may be in conflict", as passed by the Council of the City of Bakersfield on the 20th day of Sept- ember, 1915, and approved by the llayor of said City on said date, shall be a~~or rejected by the people of the City of Bakers- ~ield. SECTION 2: The special election hereby oalled and ordered to be held shall be held and conducted, and the votes thereat received and canvassed, and the returns thereof made, s~d the result thereof ascertained, determined and declared as herein provided and according to the laws of the State of California providing for and governing elections of the City of Bakersfield; and the polls for such election shall be and remain open during the time required by said laws, The ballot to be used at said spedial election shall have printed thereon the words" Shall Ordinance #287, entitl,~d" An Ordinance providing for the regulation of the business of using, operating and driving automobiles for hire upon the public streets of the City of Bakersfield; providing for licenses to carry on such business and for the revocation thereof; requiring the operators of such business to furnish bonds; making the violation of any of the provisions of this ordinance a mis- demeanor and providing a penalty therefor, and repealing all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith insofar as the same z~ay be in conflict,' be adopted."
