AN ORDINANCE REQUIRING ANY ?ERSON, FIRM, OR
CORPORATION TO ?ROCUP~E A PERMIT TO KEEP, MAINTAIN,
RUN OR CONDUCT ANY HOTEL, LODGING, ROOMING OR APART-
I~ENT HOUSE: PROVIDING FOR REVOCATION OF PERMITS:
MAKING A VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANCE A MISDEMEANOR,
AND PROVIDING A PENALTY THEREFOR.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD,
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation
to keep, maintain, run or conduct any hotel, lodging house, rooming
house or apartment house in the City of Bakersfield, without first
having procured a permit so to do, from the Council of the City of
Bakersfield. Provided however, that the provisions of this 0rdi-
nance shall not apply to private houses with permanent tenants as
distinguished from transients, in which not more than two rooms or
not more than two apartments are rented or leased or held out to be
rented or leased.
SECTION 2. Such permits shall be issued only to such persons as the
Council, after investigation, shall believe to be of good moral
character, snd they may be revoked by said Council 8~t any time, when
it is ~hown to the satisfaction of the Council that prostitution is
permitted to exist, or that acts of lewdness or immorality take
place with the knowledge, or means of knowledge of the proprietor,
owner, keeper, manager, or person in charge.
SECTION 3. , Any person, firm or corporation keeping or conducting any
hotel, lodging house, rooming house or apartment house without having
first procured a permit, as required by this Ordinance, or who con-
tinues to keep or conduct such hotel, lodging house, rooming house,
or apartment house after such permit has been revoked, shall be
guilty, of a misdemeanor, and on conviction thereof, shall be subject
to a fine not exceeding ~he sum of Three Hundred Dollars ($300.00),

or by imprisonment in the County Jail for a term not exceeding
niuety (90) days, or both such fine and imprisonment. And every day
that such hotel, lodging house, rooming house or apartment house is
conducted in violstion of the terms of this Ordinance, shall be
deemed a separate offense.
SECTIOE 4. This Ordinance shall be in effec~ from and after thirty
days from the date of its passage.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Ordinance was passed
by the Council of the City of Bakersfield, on the -~ day of
