AN ORDINANCE REQUIRING ANY PERSON, FIRM OR
CORPORATION OPERATING A RENT CAR, AUTONOBILE FOR
HIRE, TAXICAB, AUTO STAGE, OR 0TKER IrEHICLE USED
FOR CARRYING PASSENGERS FOR HIRi~, WITHIN THE CITY
OF BAE~RSFIELD, TO PROCURE A Pi~R~IT FR0~ THE COUN-
CIL: PROVIDING FOR THE REGULATION OF TPE~ PER~IITS:

OR, AND PROVIDING A PEi~ALTY THEREFOR.
BE IT 0RDAII~ED BY THE COU~?CIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD,
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation
to operate within the City of Bakersfield any rent car, automobile
for hire, tax~icab~, auto stage or other vehicle used for carrying
passengers for hire, without first having procured a permit so to
do, from the Council of the City of Bakersfield, provided, however,
~hat nothing in this Ordinance shall be construed to apply to inter-
urban stages.
SECTION 2. Such permits shall be granted for the unexpired portion
of the calendar year and must be renewed on or before January first
for each succeeding year thereafter. Such permits sh~.ll be granted
only to such persons, firms or corporations as the Council, after
investigation, shall find to be proper and suitable, and if a person
or firm be of good moral character, and they may be revoked at any
time when it is shown to the satisfaction of the Council that such
rent cars, automobiles for hire, taxicabs, auto stages or other
vehicles operated thereunder are used with the knowledge of their
owners or driw.~rs for lewd or immoral purposes, or for carrying
passengers to or from houses of~prostitution or assignation, ~

SECTION 3. All applications for permits shall be made on forms
to ~e obtained from. the City Clerk's office, and when filled out,
shall be filed in such office. Such application shall show the
name of the person, form or corporation owning such vehicle, and the
State license number of the vehicle.
SECT I0~T 4.
Any person, firm or corporation operating a rent car,
automobile for hire, taxicab', auto stage or other vehicle used for
carrying passengers for hire without first having a permit, as re-
quired by this Ordinance, or who continues to operate such rent car,
automobile for hire, taxicab, auto stage or other vehicle after such
permit has been revoked, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and on
conviction thereof, shall be subject to a fine not to exceed the
of Three Hundred Dollars ($300.00), or imprisonment in the County
Jail not exceeding ninety (90) days, or both such fine and imprison-
ment, Each day that such rent car, automobile for hire, taxicab,
auto stage, or other vehicle for hire is operated in violation of
the terms of this Ordinance, shall be deemed guilty of a separate
offense.
SECTION 5. This Ordinance shall be in effect from and after thirty
days from the date of its passage.
