Other than on vehicles actually engaged at the time in Cleats, Tires, construction or repair work on streets, no tire on any motor etc. or other vehicle operated on or over any publ~ic street or bridge shall have on its periphery any block, stud, flange, cleat, ridge, bead or any other protuber,ance of metal or wood which projects beyond the tread or traction surface of the tire; but this section shall not be so construed as to prohibit the use of tire chains of reasonable proportions on motor vehicles when required for safety because of snow, ice or other conditions tending to cause such motor vehicle to slide or skid; provided, however, that braction engines or tr.actors, the propulsive power of which is exerted not through wheels resting upon the ground, but by means of a flexible b~ad or chain, known as a movable track, may be operated upon the public streets with transverse corrugations upon the periphery of said movable tracks, on condition that a permit shall first have been obtained as hereinafter provided. SECTION 43. No motor or other vehicle shall be operated on or over Extreme Limit any public street or bridge, nor shall any object be moved of weight including over or upon any public street or bridge on wheels, rollers, load. or otherwise, except when transported in or upon vehicles r~aning exclusively on stationary rails or tracks, in excess of a total weight, inclading load, of thirty thousand pounds, when said motor or other'vehicle or contrivance is equipped with four wheels running on the street, or in excess of a total weight, including load, of forty thousand pounds when said motor or other vehicle or contrivance shall be equipped with six wheels running on the street and with three axles not less than ninety-six inches apart, without first obtain- ing a permit as hereinafter provided. SECTION ~,~,. No motor or other vehicle or other object, or contrivance V~eight for moving loads, except as hereinafter otherwise provided, Lim~ tati on s. - 13 - shall be operated or moved upon or over any public street or bridge, the weight of which resting upon the surface~of said street or bridge exceeds eight h~ndred pounds upon any inch of width of tire, when said vehicle is equipped with tires made of other material than metal~ and no motor or other vehicle, object, or contrivance for moving loads shall be operated or moved upon or ov~er any public street or bri¢~e the weight of which resting upon the surface of said street or bridge exceeds six h~ndred pounds upon any inch of width of tire, roller, wheel or other object supported on the surf act thereof when such tires or the rolling surface of such rollers, wheels or other objects are made in whole or in part of metal, without first obta. ining a .oermit as here- inafter in this Ordinsnce provided; provided, however, that traction engines or tractors, the propulsive power of which is exerted not through wheels resting~, upon the ground but by means of a flexible band or chain, known as a movable track, shall not be s~bject to the foregoing limitations . upon permissible weights per inch of width of tire if the portions of the movable tracks in contact with the s~rface of the highway present plane surface~. SECTION 48. It shall be unlawful for any person to use or to sound, or 'to cause 'or permit to be used or to be sounded, in or upon any public street, s.lley or other public place, any such bell, gong,r horn or other signal device in any manner other than to oroduce an abru.ot sound sufficiently loud 'to serve as an ade- quate warning of the aoproach of the vehicle to which the same is attached, or to sound, or to cause or permit to be sounded, any such bell, gong, horn or other signal device ex- cept when necessary to give such warning. SECTION ~2. SECTION %3.
