WH~!;~AS, the im~diate prese~ation off the public health,
peace and safety require the passage off an emergency Ordinance re-
quiring the wearing off gauze masks during the prevalence of the pres-
ent epidemic, of influenza;
~, THEREFOr, BE IT ORDAIi~D BY TI~ COUNCIL OF Tt~ CITY OF
BY~Ro~Im~D, as follows:
SECTION 1. Every person within the City of B~ersfield and every person
who comes within the City off Bakersffield during the prevalence of t~
oresent mn~lmeaza eoidemic shall at all times and places within said
City. wear over his or her mouth and nose, a gauze ~sk of a kind a~
design gpproved by' thg Health Officer of said City. Such mask must
be so worn that respiration shall be through said mask, providsd,
however, th~,t said mask may be removed at all reasonable ti~es ~
~ ~~ ~~ ~, and provided further that said
~sks need not be worn in private houses or private rooms, unless
a case of influenza shall exist in said places.
SECTION 2. ~y violation of ~his Ordinance or any portion thereof is
hereby declared to be a misdemeanor and punishable by a fine not to
exceed One Hundred Dollars ($100.00), or by imprisomnent in the
County Jail not to exceed fifty (50) days, or by both such fine and
impri so ~n. ent.
SECTIO~ B. All Ordinance and parts of Ordinances in conflict herewith
are hereby repealed.
~CTION 4. This Ordi~oe shall be in full force and effect i~ediately
as an emergency Ordinance.
