Recommendation from t?:e City Planning Conm~.ssion
that motor vehicles ~'~_th three or more axles as provided for
under section ~¥o. 459 of the Vehicle Code be restricted from
using ~i!es Street between Union Aven~e and the east city limits
and that ordinances be prepared to cover was read. Upon motion
by Carna]~s, seconded by Vercsm~e_~, the recommendation was approved
and the City Attorney was instr~cted to prepare the necessary
ordinances. Co~ncilman Ryder voted in the negative on this
motion.
Petition from Yentucky Street residents
against use of tr~cks on that street.
A petition signed by forty-six residents of ~[entucky
Street asking that steps be taken to restrict the use of
on that street was read and upon a motion by Carna]~is, seconded
by Siemon, the petition '~zas referred to the City Plamning Com-
mission.
Refund of 1947-48 Personal Property Taxes.
Upon a ~otion by S~emon, seconded ~ Cross, the City
Auditor was m~t~orized to issue a warrant in the sun of i];1!.93

property taxes erroneously collected.

In accordance with provisions of Salary Ordinance
No. VO0, ?T.S.~ reco~m~endations were submitted by the Police
Chief, Acting Fire Chief, City Assessor, Acting City ~{anager
and Police Judge recommending that certain erapie?foes in their
respective departments havir~ completed their required length
of service are eligible to be advanced to the next salary
bracket° The Acting City T.~anager having ap~oroved all recommen-
dations submitted, upon a motion by Cross, seconded by Ryder,
the Council approved the increases, effective July 1, 1947.

A Certificate of Findings of Fact of the Planning
Co~niss:~on reco~aending that a portion of Block U of the Lowell

Certificate was received and eight o'clock I~.~!., July 28, 1947
was fixed as the time for hearing before the Council on this

A protest signed by sixty residents living so~t~
of California Avenue bet'~een ¢:leander Avenue ~nd Oa]~ Street
co.~plaining of smoke and soot condition said to be caused by
the Santa Fe Railway operation ~vas read. Upon a ~lotion by
Cross, seconded by Carnakis, the Cit~ ~.~ana~er was instructed
to address a strong letter of protest to the proper authorities
of the Santa Fe Railway Co~pany in regard to this condition
and enclose a copy of the letter received from the complaining
residents.

Avenue.
This being the time set to further consider bids
submitted to cover the constr~ctlon of a portion of a storm drain
to serve the area north of Truxtun Avenue and west of Chester
Avenue, it was recor-muended by the City ~,~anaFer that the proposal
submitted by Pipe Line Constructors be accepted, this being the
lowest bid presented. Upon a motion by Carnakis, seconded by
Kuehn, bid submitted by Pipe Line Constructors to perform the

Mayor was authorized to execute the instrument and the City
Auditor was authorized and instructed to issue a warrant for
$2500.00 as first payment under the terms of the agreement.
